Where are we going?

Full car pictureModern technology is a wonderful thing; for the most part!

Not long ago most of us had to find our way around by following maps. Then came the route planner. You logged on to the AA or RAC typed in your starting point and your destination and you were given a route to follow.

The problem was that it often seemed to give too much information. You only needed to know at what junction you joined the M5. You did not need to be told about every landmark on the road you were following! And then there were times when it just seemed to lead you in the wrong direction!Roundabout sign

Thank goodness we now have sat nav. Now we need never get lost again. I wish! Now we have stories of lorries getting stuck up impassable country roads, of people in pretty little villages protesting because they are suddenly on everyone’s route to wherever! Perhaps it would be better if we just all went back to using maps?

I guess we would all agree that it is important for us to know where we are going. We don’t want to waste our time on the journey or end up in a ditch because we took a wrong turning.

If that is true of the journeys we take in our cars how much more must it be true of life itself. Yet it seems that most of us just drift through life without any thought as to where it might be heading.

The Easter story reminds us that one stop on the journey we will all have to make is at death. Each Good Friday we remember that Jesus was crucified by His enemies.

But of course the story does not end there. It shows us that death is not the end, it is not our final destination. So Jesus died, but then He rose from the dead.

That first Easter morning His disciples who had seen Him die could not believe that He was alive again. But He was! And now He shows us that as we follow the journey of life we have a choice. Either we can go through life without any idea as to what is ahead, or we can, by trusting in Jesus, face the journey ahead with confidence.

Jesus presents us with a challenge in John chapter 11 verses 25-26: ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?’How will you respond to His challenge this Easter time? Do YOU know where YOU are going?
